Watercolor Essentials + Expressive Drawing: Online Classes in September
In September we will continue with online courses and be offering 2 different classes:
Watercolor Essentials and Expressive Drawing.
Watercolor Essentials will be a 4-week class and the first of a 2 part class, starting from the important foundations in watercolor.
We will begin with getting a handle on the water to pigment ratio, the most important brushstrokes, and way to handle your brush and controlling values through the combination of these elements.
From there we will move into maintaining the white of the paper, creating depth with vibrant shadows and discussions on transparency and using warm and cool colors to bring your watercolors to life.
I encourage anyone wanting to go back to creating a solid foundation in watercolor to start here. Being able to control water-pigment ratio, values in painting, leaving the white of the paper in order to create a strong sense of light- these are all vital places to start or revisit.
Times, Dates, and Cost:
Our class meetings will be Tuesdays
September 8, 15, 22, and 29 via Zoom from 5- 7 pm Rome time.

What’s included in the class:
– 4 1.5 – 2-hour meetings via zoom where Kelly will lead you step-by-step through various exercises with demonstrations and explanations
– Each class will be recorded and only available afterward to class participants. You will have lifetime access to these recordings
– Each class will have a follow-up homework assignment to help implement what we have learned
– We will have a private Facebook group where only participants in the class can share their work, get feedback, ask questions and support each other in learning
– You have full access to Kelly via email or Facebook for any questions or feedback that you would like at any time
How to Register:
The class costs $150 and can simply be paid via PayPal. Please indicate that you are registering for the watercolor class in the notes with your payment. If you would like to pay another way, please just contact me to let me know.
I will send you a recommended materials list upon registration. You will not need to make a large investment in materials.
In this 4-week online class, we will explore new ways of thinking about and working to improve our freedom and expression with drawing.
Each meeting will focus on a new technique to help explore ways to open up, loosen up, and find a new freedom in enjoying the act and expression of drawing.
Each person will be encouraged to find their unique voice through a series of exercises including continual lines, working with negative space, creative and free mark-making and more.
I want to emphasize that this class is for ALL LEVELS and experience in drawing.
How it works:
We will meet for 1.5-2 hours every Sunday in September live via zoom. We will discuss the day’s topic and Kelly will offer examples and we will draw together. There will be time for individual and group feedback, which is a crucial element of this class and why we will work together live.
There will be optional homework assignments to anyone who wants to continue to explore on their own. We will have a private Facebook group that is just for us where sharing and feedback are encouraged (but not mandatory). You will have access to me via email at any time where I am available to answer any follow-up questions you might have.
All of the sessions will be recorded and available only to the class participants if you can’t make it live for any reason or just want to re-watch and go through the lessons again.
